New year, new blog post! Setting my intentions (super) early in the year by finishing up a post…on New Year’s Day! Maybe it’s just me, but growing up an Angeleno, with The Tournament of Roses Parade just a hop, skip, and jump (…and whole lot of traffic) from me, I’ve always associated roses with a new year. According to the site flowermeaning.com, “a rose with 8 petals was a message of rebirth and renewal” – how apropos. My intentions were to have a different blog post up this past week, but it worked out perfectly that I was able to finish this rose print dress, and have it shot, just in time for the new year.
NYE/New Year’s Day is actually my favorite holiday. It represents beginnings, fresh starts, new plans…you know, you’ve heard it all before. In my case, it is a bit of a double new year celebration as I was born in January. I feel like I get a little bit of a buffer from now until my birthday to fully get everything organized for the upcoming year. If I’m not ready, then my birthday is another chance to regroup and start over.
In keeping with my current theme of making things for myself that are a little out of my comfort zone, I have made this dress shorter than I tend to wear. The rose print – the fabric itself – it was all giving me some type of ruffle vibe. But I wanted a little modern touch, so I added a small slit in the waist to show a sliver of skin, and matching slits on the sleeves near the elbows. It was just enough added design detail so as to not fight with the rest of the design of the dress.
Wishing you a year full of joy. May you always have something cute to wear in the new year! (If you’re planning on wearing something cute, chances are you’re planning on having fun!) What are you favorite types of print, or dresses? I’d love to hear all about it!
Coincidentally, I noticed many other adorable rose print dresses while I was online browsing the other day, so I will include links to those as well in case you fancy yourself a rose print dress. I’d link mine, but I’m not selling it online just yet *wink*.
Happy New Year!
