H&M Paper-bag Pants

Every 6 months or so I like to go through my closet and see what needs updating, what can be donated, and what the clothes hoarder in me finally needs to let go of. Recently I noticed that although I own like a bazillion pairs of jeans, I only have one pair of dress slacks. So I have been working on introducing more pants into the mix. I saw these while shopping for a recent trip, and was hesitant to buy them at first because pleats and pant pockets have the tendency to add more bulk in areas where you least want it, for me that would be my hips section, but I’m glad I decided to try them on before I completely ruled them out.

Olive makes a great neutral and can be worn with a wide range of colors. If you’re looking to try this trend, but don’t want to commit to an expensive option, I think this is a great pair. I believe they may also come in black and mustard, from sizes 2 to 20. I’ve already worn these pants on my birthday trip last month to dinner and plan to wear them many more times through out Spring and Summer.

Size reference: Since I’m running a little thicker right now than usual, I tried on both the size 12 and 14. Even though the 12 fit a little snug, I like the fit much better than the 14. The size 14 didn’t really seem all that much bigger in size and was loose in the wrong places causing an unflattering fit on me.

For this look, I styled the pants with a cropped blush Zara mock turtle top (in size medium). It was the perfect length for the high waist of these paper-bag pants. It has been chilly here in LA, and although it’s a rare day when we need coats in California, it’s always good to have one nice coat in the collection just in case we do get a freak cold week…like this one has been. Maybe I’m just mentally prepping for Spring already with this look, even though the temps aren’t quite there yet (it’s no secret that cold weather and I are not besties).

The pink coat is from Banana Republic (about 2 years old) and the red shoes are oldies as well (you can find the red heels in an old post from about 2 years ago), but I will link some similar finds below in the same sites that I bought this top and pants (so that you don’t have to go too far), as well as a couple other options. The sunglasses are MCM and were purchased last Spring, but I will link similar styles below.

Let me know what you think!
