How To Style Your Summer Dresses in Winter

Most of my closet consists of dresses. Recently, I decided I want to clean out and revamp my closet. I’m keeping the items that I truly love the most (yes, I was totally influenced by Marie Kondo) and I am donating some pieces, or I am selling the pieces that are gently worn on Poshmark – click the link to view items still available. I still have many articles of clothing to add to this shop and most have either only been worn once (some have never even been worn) or have very minimal wear. I plan to do a more in depth blog post about what I’m learning throughout this process (what items in my closet have stood the test of time, what hasn’t, etc.), but the first thing I’ve noticed is that the pieces I’ve held onto are mainly the classic basics that work season after season. I also wanted to get more use out of the seasonal pieces I do have, so what better way than to layer up Fall/Winter items under your Spring/Summer items?

I’ve styled this Urban Outfitters button-down linen dress that I purchased this past Summer with a staple turtleneck underneath. Turtlenecks are everywhere this Winter (but then again, when the temps drop, when aren’t they?) and should definitely be one of your closet staples (I have 4…and 3 of them are black). For an added layer of warmth on my legs, I put on opaque tights. Tights are lifesavers in cooler temps and allow you to pull off lighter layers in cooler temps. This dress is no longer available, but I’ve linked some dresses that will look cute layered over your closet basics.
